amateur systems librarian

a juicy read

December19

My wee how to is the second project, so you’ll need to scroll down a little bit. I learned how to make these books from the folks at SFPIRG.

I now work in a fine arts library, which is lovely, wacky, and wonderful in many ways. As I don’t have a background in the arts I’m learning a new vocabulary and learning about different resources. I love industrial design, typography, and book arts, so this is much more fun than learning about resources to support an actuarial studies program, or mollusk research laboratory. How to Make Books: Fold, Cut & Stitch Your Way to a One-of-a-kind Book is quite delightful and practical beginners guide to making books.

Instructables also has some good book making projects (1, 2, 3,).

Your Comment:

I’m a librarian who doesn’t read many books. I like figuring out how things work, why they break, and how to make them work better. Thankfully I get to do this for work. I am the Systems and Technical Services Librarian at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, but the thoughts and opinions here are my own.

I’m not an artist, but I like to make things. I’m tinkering with Arduino. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to make some of the things I imagine.

I’m passionate about access to information, open source, intellectual freedom, and coffee.
